ΜΑΥΡΟ ΚΥΜΙΝΟ ΚΑΨΟΥΛΕΣ ΙΔΙΟΤΗΤΕΣ
1. ΛΙΓΑ ΛΟΓΙΑ
Το μαύρο κύμινο (black cumin), επίσης γνωστό και ως μαύρος σπόρος (επιστημονική ονομασία: Nigella sativa), είναι ένα ανθοφόρο φυτό που ανήκει στην οικογένεια Ranunculaceae (1), μήκους 20 έως 90 εκατοστών (14).
Ανήκει στα δικοτυλήδονα (16), και φυτρώνει σε Μεσογειακές χώρες, στην δυτική Ασία, στην ανατολική Ευρώπη, και στην Μέση Ανατολή (23), ενώ οι Άραβες αποκαλούν το μαύρο κύμινο ως "ο ευλογημένος σπόρος" (38)
Το μαύρο κύμινο περιέχει :
α. διάφορα λιπαρά οξέα (κυρίως λινολεϊκό οξύ (11, 15, 23), διάφορα αμινοξέα (15), καθώς βέβαια και υδατάνθρακες και φυτικές ίνες (1, 15),
β. βιταμίνες και μέταλλα όπως σίδηρο, χαλκό, ψευδάργυρο, φώσφορο, ασβέστιο, θειαμίνη, νιασίνη, πυριδοξίνη, φολικό οξύ (15).
γ. περισσότερα από 100 φυτοσυστατικά όπως αλκαλοειδή, σαπωνίνες, στερόλες, αιθέρια έλαια κ.ά. (15).
Η θυμοκινόνη είναι ένα από τα πιο σημαντικά ενεργά συστατικά του μαύρου κύμινου (12, 13, 15, 17, 37)

2. ΠΑΡΑΔΟΣΙΑΚΗ ΧΡΗΣΗ
Σε διάφορους πολιτισμούς (15), το μαύρο κύμινο έχει χρησιμοποιηθεί όχι μόνο ως μπαχαρικό και συντηρητικό τροφίμων, αλλά και για την προστασία και ίαση από πολλές διαταραχές (1, 19, 24), όπως είναι οι εξής :
- ρευματοειδής αρθρίτιδα (2),
- διαβήτης (2),
- άσθμα (2), και
- άλλες μεταβολικές διαταραχές (2).
Επίσης, ιστορικά έχει χρησιμοποιηθεί για πονόδοντο, μετεωρισμό, ρινική συμφόρηση, αμηνόρροια (12), βήχα, κεφαλαλγία, πυρετό, ζάλη (16), καθώς και για παθήσεις ζώων (15).

3. ΕΠΙΣΤΗΜΟΝΙΚΑ ΔΕΔΟΜΕΝΑ
Τα επιστημονικά δεδομένα έχουν δείξει ότι το μαύρο κύμινο έχει μεγάλο εύρος δραστικότητας (17). Πιο συγκεκριμένα: Α. μετα-αναλύσεις έχουν δείξει ότι το μαύρο κύμινο συνεισφέρει : - στην απώλεια βάρους (2, 3, 21, 42) - στην μείωση της ολικής χοληστερόλης, της LDL (κακής) χοληστερόλης, και των τριγλυκεριδίων (4, 6, 43, 44, 45, 46) - στην μείωση της συστολικής και της διαστολικής αρτηριακής πίεσης (5, 47) - στην μείωση του δείκτη CRP (C-αντιδρώσα πρωτεΐνη) (7) - στον έλεγχο του άσθματος (8, 48) - στην μείωση της γλυκόζης νηστείας, της μεταγευματικής γλυκόζης, της γλυκοζυλιωμένης αιμοσφαιρίνης (HbA1c) και σε άλλους δείκτες ασθενών με διαβήτη τύπου 2 (9, 22, 39, 40) Β. ανασκοπήσεις έχουν δείξει ότι το μαύρο κύμινο συνεισφέρει : - στην αντιμετώπιση του οξέος συνδρόμου εμμηνόπαυσης (10) - όταν συνδυάζεται με διαφορετικούς συμβατικούς χημειοθεραπευτικούς παράγοντες, δρα συνεργιστικά με αποτέλεσμα να μειώνει τη δοσολογία των ταυτόχρονα χρησιμοποιούμενων φαρμάκων με βελτιστοποιημένη αποτελεσματικότητα και ελάχιστη ή καθόλου τοξικότητα (15). - στον υψηλότερο ρυθμό επούλωσης τραύματος, στης πρόληψη της φλεγμονής ιστού και της ίνωσης οργάνων (18) - στην αύξηση του μητρικού γάλακτος (37) Γ. μελέτες έχουν δείξει ότι το μαύρο κύμινο συνεισφέρει : - στην θυρεοειδίτιδα Χασιμότο (25) - στις πέτρες των νεφρών (26) - στη μη-αλκοολική λιπώδη νόσο του ήπατος (27, 28, 29) - στην διάθεση (31) - στην γνωστική λειτουργία (31, 36) - στην μνήμη και στην προσοχή (36) - σε σοβαρές επιληπτικές κρίσεις παιδιών (32) - στην εκρίζωση του ελικοβακτηρίδιου του πυλωρού (33) - στην ηπατίτιδα C (34) - στην συχνότητα εμφάνισης εμπύρετης ουδετεροπενίας σε παιδιά με όγκους του εγκεφάλου (35) - στην περιεμμηνόπαυση (41) |
Επίσης, το μαύρο κύμινο αυξάνει τη δραστικότητα των αντιοξειδωτικών ενζύμων (11, 15) και δρα ως σαρωτής των ελεύθερων ριζών (11).
Κλείνοντας, προκλινικές και κλινικές μελέτες έχουν δείξει ότι το μαύρο κύμινο έχει πολλαπλές ευεργετικές επιδράσεις (17) όπως :
- αντιφλεγμονώδεις,
- αντιοξειδωτικές,
- αντιβακτηριακές, και
- οργανοπροστατευτικές
4. ΠΑΡΕΝΕΡΓΕΙΕΣ
Όσον αφορά τις παρενέργειες που έχει το μαύρο κύμινο είναι ελάχιστες (15) και φαίνεται να μην είναι σοβαρές (20).
Συνεπώς, μπορεί να χρησιμοποιηθεί σε κλινικές δοκιμές λόγω των πολλών πλεονεκτημάτων που προσφέρει (20).
Ωστόσο, το λάδι από μαύρο κύμινο θέλει κάποια προσοχή (49).
